Translation of a poem by Sherko Bekas from Kurdish
Today, the wind is wounded and the sun is shining red,
All the trees became pomegranates
All the houses are purple
All the streets have risen on their feet
Today in the east of my country
A group of imprisoned red doves
Have flown, wings flapping from the execution field
And returned to Kurdistan
The red doves say,
We are the echo of the mountains that cannot be moved
We are the throats of poems that do not dry up
We are the descendants of the storms that do not sink!
Today, the red doves
They have returned and will not go back to Tehran
The red doves say
The Islamic Republic of executions
Is descending gradually
While we, we’re just rising up
From the hanging edges of the mountains
To reach the sun and pull it down on the ground!
